Vision Quest Out Last

So this year the theme for VQ is survival and lesson 1 is how to out last the enemy. These are my notes and what I took from the message on the first night by the one and only awetastic Jody Mitchell!

Out last- going through something and coming out stronger, perseverance, endurance

God is refining you

the world is not an easy place

“sometimes life sucks, but as hard as it is right now, it’s gonna get worse” ~Jody Mitchell

The enemy wants to discourage you and either make you stop or get you distracted.

He can’t actually hurt you unless you let him, so his most efficient weapon is to trick you.

Matthew 10:16-22 “Stay alert. This is hazardous work I’m assigning you. You’re going to be like sheep running through a wolf pack, so don’t call attention to yourselves. Be as cunning as a snake, inoffensive as a dove. “Don’t be naive. Some people will impugn your motives, others will smear your reputation—just because you believe in me. Don’t be upset when they haul you before the civil authorities. Without knowing it, they’ve done you—and me—a favor, given you a platform for preaching the kingdom news! And don’t worry about what you’ll say or how you’ll say it. The right words will be there; the Spirit of your Father will supply the words. “When people realize it is the living God you are presenting and not some idol that makes them feel good, they are going to turn on you, even people in your own family. There is a great irony here: proclaiming so much love, experiencing so much hate! But don’t quit. Don’t cave in. It is all well worth it in the end. It is not success you are after in such times but survival. Be survivors! Before you’ve run out of options, the Son of Man will have arrived.

Romans 8:18 For I consider that the sufferings of this present time are not worthy to be compared with theglory that is to be revealed to us.

James 1:2-4 Consider it a sheer gift, friends, when tests and challenges come at you from all sides. You know that under pressure, your faith-life is forced into the open and shows its true colors. So don’t try to get out of anything prematurely. Let it do its work so you become mature and well-developed, not deficient in any way.

The refining process is tough and repetitive, you’l wanna give up, the pressure is heard to bear, it’s heating you up and pushing you towards the edge, but the outcome is more than worth it.

Romans 5:2-4 We find ourselves standing where we always hoped we might stand—out in the wide open spaces of God’s grace and glory, standing tall and shouting our praise. There’s more to come: We continue to shout our praise even when we’re hemmed in with troubles, because we know how troubles can develop passionate patience in us, and how that patience in turn forges the tempered steel of virtue, keeping us alert for whatever God will do next. In alert expectancy such as this, we’re never left feeling shortchanged.

When you go through something, it produces character, which produces hope.

Hebrews 11:1 NOW FAITH is the assurance of the things we hope for, being the proof of things we do not see and the conviction of their reality faith perceiving as real fact what is not revealed to the senses.

James 1:5 If you don’t know what you’re doing, pray to the Father. He loves to help.

Romans 8:26-28 Meanwhile, the moment we get tired in the waiting, God’s Spirit is right alongside helping us along. If we don’t know how or what to pray, it doesn’t matter. He does our praying in and for us, making prayer out of our wordless sighs, our aching groans. He knows us far better than we know ourselves, knows our pregnant condition, and keeps us present before God. That’s why we can be so sure that every detail in our lives of love for God is worked into something good.

You are called according to His purpose

usually if something in your head doesn’t make sense, don’t worry about it, it’s probably God. He will reveal things to give others hope. If He tells you to do something, don’t discount it because it doesn’t make sense.

1 Peter 2:9-10 But you are the ones chosen by God, chosen for the high calling of priestly work, chosen to be a holy people, God’s instruments to do his work and speak out for him, to tell others of the night-and-day difference he made for you—from nothing to something, from rejected to accepted.

Hebrews 10:36 Patient endurance is what you need now, so that you will continue to do God’s will. Then you will receive all that he has promised.

I hope this helps you Out last your enemy, it’s sure helping me.

Live long and prosper, Tori.
