I know some of you are sheltered home-schoolers like myself, but this is the real world. There are problems out there. So, this might totally creep you out, but you’re probably hearing about this stuff in school, on TV, and even around your friends like it’s no big deal, but nobody talks about it in church. Why? These are things that must be dealt with and don’t you think you need to hear the Bible’s POV (Point of view) instead of just this world’s? What does the Bible say about these things? Well your just gonna have to see…
1. Masturbation (Solo sex)
The world is telling you this is normal, but if it habitually becomes a problem your dealing with, it becomes like porn, you are creating for yourself an unreal fantasy and ruining your future life. But, anything that binds you, Christ gave you the power to overcome it.
Romans 12:2 Don’t become so well-adjusted to your culture that you fit into it without even thinking. Instead, fix your attention on God. You’ll be changed from the inside out. Readily recognize what he wants from you, and quickly respond to it. Unlike the culture around you, always dragging you down to its level of immaturity, God brings the best out of you, develops well-formed maturity in you.
What happens if maybe you renew your mind once every day, but the whole rest of the day it’s full of junk? Well we’re supposed to renew our mind continuously so that doesn’t happen. As long as you have an enemy you must continue to renew your mind.
The church has done a poor job dealing with this issue by taking it to the extremes and Judging them so hard they won’t listen or pretending that it doesn’t even exist. It’s sad because people who deal with this issue can be helped but most Christians aren’t willing to show them love.
Do you know why you believe what you do? They sure do.
This is very popular in the world we live in, it’s almost impossible for you not to know/know of someone like this. You probably do know at least one person who is lesbian, gay, or bi.
What does the Bible say about it?
Genesis 19 (Corrupted people)
Leviticus 18:22 Don’t have sex with a man as one does with a woman. That is abhorrent.
Leviticus 20:13 If a man has sex with a man as one does with a woman, both of them have done what is abhorrent. They must be put to death; they are responsible for their own deaths.
But we’re not the judge. It is not our job to tell them what they are doing is wrong. Did Christ do that? no. He showed them love and corrected them. We’re supposed to be RE-presenting Christ and all we seem to do is judge.
Romans 1:26-28 Worse followed. Refusing to know God, they soon didn’t know how to be human either—women didn’t know how to be women, men didn’t know how to be men. Sexually confused, they abused and defiled one another, women with women, men with men—all lust, no love. And then they paid for it, oh, how they paid for it—emptied of God and love, godless and loveless wretches. Since they didn’t bother to acknowledge God, God quit bothering them and let them run loose.
1 Corinthians 6:9 Don’t you know that evil people won’t have a share in the blessings of God’s kingdom? Don’t fool yourselves! No one who is immoral or worships idols or is unfaithful in marriage or is a pervert or behaves like a homosexual.
1 Timothy 1:10 The Law was written for people who are sexual perverts or who live as homosexuals or are kidnappers or liars or won’t tell the truth in court. It is for anything else that opposes the correct teaching
Yes, it’s wrong and a sin, but they way Christians typically treat them isn’t right.
Overcoming homosexuality is not the same as deciding not to tell a lie or not to steal something.
It’s telling them to no longer be attracted to something they have been taught to be attracted to.
So some guys are less tough, does that make them gay by birth? No! That is not how God created us.
Some girls enjoy sports and other stereo-type guy stuff, but does that mean they are lesbian? No.
Society makes them think they are though, it makes it “OK” they tell them it’s just the way they were born. If their friends are constantly telling them they are, and what they watch on TV tells them they are, then what do you think they will think they are if they don’t have the Holy Spirit to guide them???? This is serious stuff.
And guess what? If you judge them, they will never see the truth, they will shut you down, and continue to live the way they do. It gains nothing to judge them. But, they can recover, that lifestyle does not have to be permanent. It will take them a while, but with God’s help and you showing Hid love they can break free of it. It’s not our job to save anybody, all that we’re supposed to do is create the environment and show them God’s love. He showed them love without compromising what he knew was right or sinning.
Sometimes we just need to shut-up. Maybe you shouldn’t say anything to them about their lifestyle, it’s not your place to try and change them, but let them see through your actions, RE-present Christ.
