1 Corinthians 13:7 (AMP) Love bears up under anything and everything that comes, is ever ready to believe the best of every person, its hopes are fadeless under all circumstances, and it endures everything [without weakening].
1 Corinthians 13:7 (MSG) Puts up with anything, Trusts God always, Always looks for the best, Never looks back, But keeps going to the end.
1 Corinthians 13:7 (NLT) Love never gives up, never loses faith, is always hopeful, and endures through every circumstance.
So, why did I just you 3 translations of 1 Corinthians 13:7? Because it has sooo much meaning that we all need to grasp.
Let’s start with the first part, Lover bears up under anything, everything that comes/put’s up with anything/endures through every circumstance.
There’s a tough one, how many people can actually say they put up with anything? Not any that I know of. Do you even know how hard it would be (with how we’ve come accustomed to) to put up with anything? Now, that doesn’t mean we have to agree with everything, or that everything is right or good, it just means we put up with it. Like when that person looks at you wrong, or says exactly what you know they know will make you flame up. What if you didn’t let them affect you? Or what if when someone made a mistake, you forgave them and truly forgot their mistake instead of constantly reminding them of it? I think they might stop, don’t you agree? I mean what reason do they have to do that to aggravate you if it doesn’t work anymore?
Like the other day I was watching my little brother Colin, like any 3-year-old, he hasn’t grasped the concept that you can’t throw everything at people. So he started throwing his toys at Alix (My 13-year old sister) and she made “funny” noises in reaction. So what do you think he did? Stop? No way, he like the funny noises she made when he thew stuff at her, was she “trying” to get him to hurt her? No, but her reaction encouraged him.
Sometimes our reactions to people who try to get “funny noises” give them exactly what they wanted, are they satisfied? No, of course not, they’l just come back for more later, and I bet if you stop giving those people a reaction, they won’t bother you anymore.
Now for the next part,” is ever ready to believe the best of every person, its hopes are fadeless under all circumstances/ , Always looks for the best, Never looks back/ never loses faith, is always hopeful,
Some people have a hard time believing the best in people. Maybe it’s lack of trust, maybe lack of trust for that person, maybe just total dislike of that person. But either way, we aren’t required to “like people” but we are required to love them, and love believes the best of every person, so don’t ruin every possible chance of friendship with someone just because you haven’t been able to trust them in the past, Love never looks back. What about fadeless hopes, or always being hopeful? That doesn’t mean saying “I hope this day turns out great” (in a very sarcastic voice) It means being optimistic and putting your faith in God that today is gonna be a great day! Don’t loose faith! Things might fall apart left and right, but that doesn’t mean you have to have a bad day. In fact, give the devil exactly opposite what he wants! Surprise him with a kick in the stomach, be determined to have an awesome day no matter what!
And for the last part, “and it endures everything [without weakening]./But keeps going to the end./ Love never gives up,”
So, maybe its’ not working, you’re trying you’re very best to be nice to this person and they keep giving you negative response, you give up and blow up in their face right? Wrong. Love never gives up. Don’t give up, keep going and you’ll get through to them eventually, you don’t have to be their BFF or anything, just be nice, show them the love they don’t deserve, thats what Jesus did.
Live long and prosper, Tori.
