Part one The Canvas
Will you trust the painter?
1. Clean Slate
God loved you, so He sent His son to pay for your sin so you could have a clean slate.
Psalms 19: 11-13 There’s more: God’s Word warns us of danger
and directs us to hidden treasure.
Otherwise how will we find our way?
Or know when we play the fool?
Clean the slate, God, so we can start the day fresh!
Keep me from stupid sins,
from thinking I can take over your work;
Then I can start this day sun-washed,
scrubbed clean of the grime of sin.
No matter how many times you mess up, He’ll always wipe your slate clean.
Colossians 2:11-14 Entering into this fullness is not something you figure out or achieve. It’s not a matter of being circumcised or keeping a long list of laws. No, you’re already in—insiders—not through some secretive initiation rite but rather through what Christ has already gone through for you, destroying the power of sin. If it’s an initiation ritual you’re after, you’ve already been through it by submitting to baptism. Going under the water was a burial of your old life; coming up out of it was a resurrection, God raising you from the dead as he did Christ. When you were stuck in your old sin-dead life, you were incapable of responding to God. God brought you alive—right along with Christ! Think of it! All sins forgiven, the slate wiped clean, that old arrest warrant canceled and nailed to Christ’s cross.
2. The outline
Proverbs 16:1-9 1 Mortals make elaborate plans, but God has the last word. 2 Humans are satisfied with whatever looks good; God probes for what is good. 3 Put God in charge of your work, then what you’ve planned will take place. 4 God made everything with a place and purpose; even the wicked are included—but for judgment. 5 God can’t stomach arrogance or pretense; believe me, he’ll put those upstarts in their place. 6 Guilt is banished through love and truth; Fear-of-God deflects evil. 7 When God approves of your life, even your enemies will end up shaking your hand. 8 Far better to be right and poor than to be wrong and rich. 9 We plan the way we want to live, but only God makes us able to live it.
God has a plan for your life, He wants the best for you.
God sees you as a masterpiece even when sometimes we see our canvas as messed up and unfinished or that you can’t seem to stop staring over, and over, and over again. It’s ok.
Part 2 The right Tools
1. The Color Key (The Word of God)
Proverbs 4:11-15 Dear friend, take my advice;
it will add years to your life.
I’m writing out clear directions to Wisdom Way,
I’m drawing a map to Righteous Road.
I don’t want you ending up in blind alleys,
or wasting time making wrong turns.
Hold tight to good advice; don’t relax your grip.
Guard it well—your life is at stake!
Don’t take Wicked Bypass;
don’t so much as set foot on that road.
Stay clear of it; give it a wide berth.
Make a detour and be on your way.
The enemy wants to kill you! If he can’t kill you, he’ll try to get you to kill yourself (suicide), if that doesn’t work he tries to kill you slowly and shorten your life (smoking, drugs, ect…)
He’ll try to get you to mess up your painting, he’ll tell you “wouldn’t pink look better there instead of brown?”
and guess what? with most people, it’s working.
The color key tells you what you’re supposed to do!
2 Timothy 3:16-17 But don’t let it faze you. Stick with what you learned and believed, sure of the integrity of your teachers—why, you took in the sacred Scriptures with your mother’s milk! There’s nothing like the written Word of God for showing you the way to salvation through faith in Christ Jesus. Every part of Scripture is God-breathed and useful one way or another—showing us truth, exposing our rebellion, correcting our mistakes, training us to live God’s way. Through the Word we are put together and shaped up for the tasks God has for us.
Just follow the directions!
He gave you everything you need, just use it!
Matthew 6:14-15 In prayer there is a connection between what God does and what you do. You can’t get forgiveness from God, for instance, without also forgiving others. If you refuse to do your part, you cut yourself off from God’s part.
If you won’t do your part, you’re keeping God from doing His.
He’ll wipe your slate clean, hand you the brush and start over, every single time.
Lost people WILL act like lost people!!!!!!!!!! Don’t be judgmental and lose them forever.
Jesus wasn’t judgmental, so why should Christians be?
Psalms 20:4-6 May He grant you according to your heart’s desire and fulfill all your plans. We will [shout in] triumph at your salvation and victory, and in the name of our God we will set up our banners. May the Lord fulfill all your petitions. Now I know that the Lord saves His anointed; He will answer him from His holy heaven with the saving strength of His right hand.
If you wanna be happy, you gotta follow the directions.
Sometimes it’s not very clear, sometimes you need to go to someone who can see it clearly so you don’t make mistakes.
Psamls 37:3-5 Trust (lean on, rely on, and be confident) in the Lord and do good; so shall you dwell in the land and feed surely on His faithfulness, and truly you shall be fed.4Delight yourself also in the Lord, and He will give you the desires and secret petitions of your heart. 5Commit your way to the Lord [roll and repose each care of your load on Him]; trust (lean on, rely on, and be confident) also in Him and He will bring it to pass.
He wants your dreams to come true. It’s up to you to paint your life.
Will you follow the key?
Part 3 The Paint
God cares about the little things in your life.
What are some of your goals and dreams?
(seriously you can tell me haha (but this is supposed to be a thinking question) but I don’t mind)
A dream is different than a fantasy
A dream requires work on your part, a fantasy doesn’t.
Psalm 37:4 Delight yourself in the Lord and He will give you the desires and secret petitions of your heart.
Needs and desires are completely different.
Overcome your flesh and keep your mouth shut.
Delight yourself in God! Your life is built on relationships.
John 15:7 If you live in Me [abide vitally united to Me] and My words remain in you and continue to live in your hearts, ask whatever you will, and it shall be done for you.
There is no limitation to what you can be, it’s up to you.
You can do anything you want if you’re willing to pay the price for it.
2 things that can mess up your painting
Fear is faith in the wrong things
Have faith!! Faith perceives as real facts what has not been revealed to the senses.
Don’t let fear ruin your masterpiece!!!
Fear believes in the failure of you own abilities
1 John 5:13-15 My purpose in writing is simply this: that you who believe in God’s Son will know beyond the shadow of a doubt that you have eternal life, the reality and not the illusion. And how bold and free we then become in his presence, freely asking according to his will, sure that he’s listening. And if we’re confident that he’s listening, we know that what we’ve asked for is as good as ours.
Are you willing to do things nobody else has to do? Are you willing to pay the price to make your dreams come true?
Don’t be afraid to take risks and go for it!
2. Your negative relationships
If you have people in your life who are constantly dragging you down, they’ll ruin your painting!
Stand up for what you believe in, you have different standards, don’t let them change that.
1 Corinthians 15:33 But don’t fool yourselves. Don’t let yourselves be poisoned by this anti-resurrection loose talk. “Bad company ruins good manners.”
You should have lost friendsin your life, but you should be influencing them not the other way around.
Don’t only have Christian friends, cause while we are here secluded in our little Christian bubble people around us are dying and going to hell. Don’t bubble yourself so much that you have no impact on the outside world but…
If people just aren’t listening, don’t let them negatively affect your life. Don’t be fake, be you.
Are you willing to complete your masterpiece? Stick to the color key He gave you. You didn’t happen by chance, God carefully created you to have a future and a hope.
God can turn any negative thing in your life around for good.
Part 4 It takes time
This is your life Don’t Rush Things!
2 Things we tend to rush
Proverbs 1:6-8 These are the wise sayings of Solomon, David’s son, Israel’s king— Written down so we’ll know how to live well and right, to understand what life means and where it’s going; A manual for living, for learning what’s right and just and fair; To teach the inexperienced the ropes and give our young people a grasp on reality. There’s something here also for seasoned men and women, still a thing or two for the experienced to learn— Fresh wisdom to probe and penetrate, the rhymes and reasons of wise men and women. 7 Start with God—the first step in learning is bowing down to God; only fools thumb their noses at such wisdom and learning. 8 Pay close attention, friend, to what your father tells you; never forget what you learned at your mother’s knee.
You have time to figure out what you want to do with your life, don’t rush it. Everything doesn’t have to happen right now, or you’ll mess it up!
Proverbs 2:6-15 And here’s why: God gives out Wisdom free,
is plainspoken in Knowledge and Understanding.
He’s a rich mine of Common Sense for those who live well,
a personal bodyguard to the candid and sincere.
He keeps his eye on all who live honestly,
and pays special attention to his loyally committed ones.
So now you can pick out what’s true and fair,
find all the good trails!
Lady Wisdom will be your close friend,
and Brother Knowledge your pleasant companion.
Good Sense will scout ahead for danger,
Insight will keep an eye out for you.
They’ll keep you from making wrong turns,
or following the bad directions
Of those who are lost themselves
and can’t tell a trail from a tumbleweed,
These losers who make a game of evil
and throw parties to celebrate perversity,
Traveling paths that go nowhere,
wandering in a maze of detours and dead ends.
Don’t rush your relationships, you have plenty of time before you’re ready to get married so stop practicing divorce.
Take time with your good same sex friends, they will last forever, gf’s/bf’s won’t.
Have people in your life who will be there for you, always.
Don’t just have people in your life who will bail on you for some guy/girl. (and don’t be the one who bails on them)
God isn’t first in your life, He shouldn’t be
God should be interwoven into every single part of your life.
Pay attention to what God wants for you, you choose.
Galations 6:7-8 Don’t be misled: No one makes a fool of God. What a person plants, he will harvest. The person who plants selfishness, ignoring the needs of others—ignoring God!—harvests a crop of weeds. All he’ll have to show for his life is weeds! But the one who plants in response to God, letting God’s Spirit do the growth work in him, harvests a crop of real life, eternal life.
Well was that awesome or what??? Very applicable if you ask me. Some of that hit me, in the face, hard. It’s very easy to mess up and think it can’t be fixed, but remember, you are a masterpiece. Don’t let anyone tell you otherwise. And just let life play out, you have your whole life ahead of you so why rush through it and mess up now? Thanks Pastor Tammy for this awesome message!!!
Live long and prosper, Tori.
